To the family of Reverend Lim and the congregation of the Light Korean Presbyterian Church:
I am deeply concerned over reports that Reverend Lim was sentenced to life imprisonment in North Korea.
For decades, darkness has fallen over the people in North Korea. The gravity, scale and the nature of the horrific violations in North Korea are well documented, even by the United Nations.
I am reminded of a quote from William Wilberforce, “You may choose to look the other way but you can never say again that you did not know”. Those who seek to shed light and bring humanitarian assistance to the people suffering north of the 38th parallel will know one day that their efforts were not in vain.
I hope that Reverend Lim will be able to re-join you. I can only imagine what a difficult time it must be for the family.
I would be pleased to meet with the community to listen to concerns. Please accept my thoughts at this time.
